Residential Remodel
Northbrook, Illinois

This ‘50’s “Colonial Ranch” had a previous addition that resulted in an oddly-shaped kitchen, a dining area sandwiched in between the kitchen and the back door, a family room, and an odd “left-over” space in a corner of the living room that was too small to function as a room.

We re-planned the small, dark kitchen and dining area to make better use of the available space, turned the “left-over” space into a much needed mud room, and made a cohesive whole that is appropriate to the style of the house and to the way the owners live in it. We restructured the home’s back wall to replace mismatched windows and solid back door and concrete stoop with three pairs of French doors leading to a new cedar deck with pergola.  The space now comfortably flows from inside to out and reflects the casual lifestyle of its owners.

We designed color palettes, finish materials, and some furnishings for the rest of the house to help unify the existing areas and furnishings with the newly remodeled center of the home.  The result is a light, airy, welcoming space that feels comfortable for the family of three every day, and easily hosts holiday events for the extended family and friends.
